Change your last name!

April 14, 2009 Rants Comments

Texas state Representative Betty Brown (R) was quoted saying “Rather than everyone here having to learn Chinese — I understand it’s a rather difficult language — do you think that it would behoove you and your citizens to adopt a name that we could deal with more readily here?”. Can you believe her? Wow… usually racism towards Asian people isn’t so outright and obvious but OMG unbelievable. Maybe she should change her last name so it’s not a color…cause colors should just be colors and um.. yeah.. she’s crazy. Check out Think Progress to read more about what happened.

Introducing our new cockatiel Gilly! After watching so many cockatiel videos on youtube, thinking about the cockatiels I had as a kid, and after searching online for a hand-fed cockatiels, I’ve finally found the perfect cockatiel for us!

She’s around 8-9 weeks old, hand-fed, considered a cinnamon pearl, is super confident, and I LOVE HER! I got a call from her breeder last Saturday letting us know that she was available and since Jon was off from work we decided to go by. I grabbed our extra travel cage (usually used for transporting fostered kittens) and drove over to Long Beach to check her out and bring her home.

Her breeder had 2 cockatiel breeder couples (not sure if that’s the correct term) and 4 babies (all cinnamon pearls) available. As soon as we went into her sunroom we noticed that the babies were pretty scared (a few shaking in their cages) but within 2-3 minutes they were chirping and all pretty willing to step up onto our fingers. Gilly was the one that climbed onto my finger first and I noticed that she wasn’t scared at all. She immediately started to investigate my hand with her beak and though she was chirping at her siblings, she quickly calmed down and started to groom herself. I held the other birds but they seemed to be a little more timid and antsy.

After debating on which cockatiel to bring home (there was another one that was very pretty), I settled on Gilly because she just seemed the most confident. We paid, got some food to last quite awhile, and brought her home.

Here are 2 pics I took when we got home while she was still in her travel cage. I have some videos that I will be posting up soon so I’ll keep everyone posted :P

Neo running around

April 8, 2009 Neo Comments

I walked over to the studio the other day and since the sun was out, I decided to take Neo out to the grassy area and let him run around. I think there was more grass sniffing than actual running but I still managed to catch a few candid shots of him having a good time.

Big Love is awesome

April 2, 2009 TVaholic Comments

I LOVE HBO’s show “Big Love” and I’m super sad that the season is over. I have yet to find anyone else in my tiny circle of friends that watch the show…so I can only force Jon to listen to my ramblings about the characters and storyline lol. I think I like Nikki’s character best cause I feel sorry for her the most but Alby is a close second cause he scares me.

On the topic of Mormonism…I found this video on Youtube recently. If you’ve got 7 minutes to kill, definitely watch it cause it’s really really interesting. Apparently it was banned by the Mormon church, but who knows how much of the cartoon is correct about the teachings from The Book of Mormon cause I’ve never read it… but either way it’s really fascinating.

Don’t forget to watch the video about the magical underwear… it’s cool…

Ps. For those of you that watched the cartoon… don’t you just love the explanation on how Black people got their skin color??? Crazayyyyy

This post is dedicated to all the booty lovers out there armed with Adobe Photoshop in one hand and a love for curvy jelly behinds. Yes…this post is dedicated to Jaxon.. lol. Here ya go!

I was thinking about Earth Hour all day today and now it’s 11pm and I didn’t even participate! Ehhhh!! I was watching Law and Order SVU again and forgot about it! ACK!

So did anyone participate in it?

Ehh… I feel horrible….and now it’s over! AIYA!

Telemarketers… cheesh!

March 27, 2009 Rants Comments

Wow.. just got a phone call from a telemarketer asking me to donate clothing/money/electronics to their charity and when I said that I wasn’t interested…she just hung up on me. She just hung up! It made me feel so bad and angry at the same time! She didn’t ask me when the last time I donated something..which was actually 2 weeks ago at our local Salvation Army… noo.. she just hung up and assumed that I was a jerk! Ehh…

Sheep LED Art

March 25, 2009 Animals Rock, Cool Stuff Comments

Wow…I’ve always known that it took a lot of skill to herd sheep but I had no idea how much control a sheep herder actually has over the the movements of the dogs and the sheep! After watching this awesome video…you’re gonna be blown away at how smart these dogs are and how much skill these herders have. A really underrated career… lol.

I do wish that the dogs didn’t have to nip at the sheep…makes me miss Babe and his Baa-ram-ewe.. I LOVE THAT MOVIE!

fried chicken skin

Whenever I have KFC or Church’s chicken I always peel off the skin. Even though the chicken skin is probably the best part of eating fried chicken, I never thought that there would be a place that sold fried chicken skin minus the chicken! I’m guessing it tastes pretty darn good and maybe even bacon-ish?? If you want to read more on it checkout Jon’s blog at “the world according to jonolism“.
